NETWORK STRUCTURED CABLING DESIGNER HEATHROW AIRPORT

Our client, one of the UK s leading structured network cabling specialists can offer an exciting opportunity to a design specialist to play a key role in the expansion of Heathrow Airport s IT infrastructure.
Key Areas of Responsibility Design of solutions involving network products (e.g. Cisco, Nokia, OTN), Cabling Infrastructure Design and Implementation. Develop and implement structured cabling systems, including:
Ensure all designs comply with international standards such as TIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801, and BS EN 50173. and architectural drawings.
Core Activities Airport Cabling Infrastructure Designer
As a Structured Cabling Designer, your role involves the end-to-end design and coordination of structured cabling systems within airport environments, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client-specific requirements. The role includes both office-based design work and on-site presence.
Design, Implementation & Documentation
Prepare detailed design specifications, technical drawings, cable routing diagrams, and documentation in line with industry best practices and client requirements.
Develop structured cabling system designs for both new builds and refurbishments, including voice, data, low-voltage applications, fibre, and CAT cabling (e.g., CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, CAT7).
Develop complex cable schedules for projects, bill of materials, and cost estimates for project planning and delivery.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of the cabling infrastructure.
Liaise with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve design and installation issues.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies.
Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks associated with the cabling infrastructure.
Prepare detailed design specifications, drawings, and documentation in accordance with industry best practices and client requirements.
Produce and present technical reports and presentations to stakeholders.
Site Coordination & Surveys
Conduct with Engineering Teams site surveys to assess existing infrastructure and determine cabling requirements.
Extract and analyse airport survey and existing design data to recommend improvements or corrections.
Maintain onsite presence (3 5 days/week), including in airside and landside environments, requiring appropriate security clearance (e.g., airside pass, CRC checks, and reference verification).
Cross-Disciplinary Integration
Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, architects, and construction teams to ensure seamless infrastructure integration.
Sequence and coordinate works to minimize installation disruption and align with broader construction timelines.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure designs meet all relevant regulations and standards, including CDM 2015, Building Regulations, ISO/IEC 11801, TIA/EIA, BICSI, and IEEE.
Understand and adhere to all health and safety obligations, particularly in construction and airside zones.
